A two-month journey circling Australia is being halted in the wake of the tragic passing of an older woman who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been walking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the vessel, but broke off from the excursion for a rest. The ship departed without her and returned several hours later after the personnel realised the woman was missing.

An extensive rescue mission found her remains the following day.

Officials are examining the incident, alongside investigators and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer announced that travelers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and prior technical problems".

In a statement, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a total repayment, and said the company was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the individuals via chartered flights".
